KISALTMALAR
İngilizcede konuşma dilinde kısaltmalar oldukça önemlidir. Bu dersimize kadar bazı derslerde kısaltmalar hakkında bilgi vermiştik. Ancak bunların üzerinde çok durmamıştık. Bu derste kısaltmalar üzerinde duracağız. Nasıl yazıldıklarını, nasıl okunduklarını örneklerle tekrar edeceğiz. Şimdi bu derse kadar öğrendiğimiz kısaltmaları inceleyelim.
1) ''what'' sözcüğü ''is'' ile birleşerek ''what's'' şeklinde yazılır (wots) diye okunur.
what is : what's
What is this? (wot iz dis) : Bu nedir? Kısaltılmış hali: What's this? (wots dis)
What is that? (wot iz det) : Şu nedir? Kısaltılmış hali: What's that? (wots det)
What is it? (wot iz it) : O nedir? Kısaltılmış hali: What's it? (wots it)
2) ''that'' sözcüğü ''is'' ile birleşerek ''that's'' diye yazılır (dets) şeklinde okunur.
that is : that's
That is a balcony. (det iz ı 'belkıni) : Şu bir balkondur. Kısaltılmış hali: That's a balcony. (dets ı 'belkıni)
That is a tourist. (det iz ı 'tuırist) : Şu bir turisttir. Kısaltılmış hali: That's a tourist. (dets iz ı 'tuırist)
That is a roof. (det iz ı ru:f) : Şu bir raftır. Kısaltılmış hali: That's a roof. (dets iz ı ru:f)
3) ''it'' sözcüğü ''is'' ile birleştiğinde ''it's'' diye yazılır (its) diye okunur.
it is : it's
It is a notebook. (it iz ı 'noutbuk) : O bir defterdir. Kısaltılmış hali: It's a notebook. (its ı 'noutbuk)
It is a shop. (it iz ı şop) : O bir defterdir. Kısaltılmış hali: It's a shop. (its ı şop)
It is a chimney. (it iz ı 'çimni) : O bir bacadır. Kısaltılmış hali: It's a chimney. (its ı 'çimni)
4) ''is'' sözcüğü ''not'' sözcüğüyle birleşir ''isn't'' şeklinde yazılır (izınt) diye okunur.
is not: isn't
This is not an apple. (dis iz not ın 'epıl) : Bu bir elma değildir. K. Hali: This isn't an apple. (dis izınt ın 'epıl)
That is not a train. (det iz not ı treyn) : Şu bir tren değildir. K. Hali: That isn't a train. (det izınt ı treyn)
It is not a ship. (it iz not ı şip) : O bir gemi değildir. K. Hali: It isn't a ship. (it izınt ı şip)
5) ''are'' sözcüğü ''not'' ile birleşerek ''aren't'' şeklinde yazılır (a:nt) diye okunur.
are not: aren't
These are not pictures. (di:z a: not pikçız) : Bunlar resim değildir. K. H.: These aren't pictures. (di:z a:nt pikçız)
Those are not lessons. (‘douz a: not lesınz) : Şunlar ders değildir. K. H.: Those aren't lessons. (‘douz a:nt lesınz)
They are not baskets. (dey a: not ba:skits) : Onlar sepet değildir. K. H.: They aren't baskets. (dey a:nt ba:skits)
6) ''where'' sözcüğü ''is'' ile birleşir ''where's'' diye yazılır (weız) diye okunur.
where is: where's
Where is the man? (weı iz dı men) : Adam nerede? K. Hali: Where's the man? (weız dı men)
Where is the woman? (weı iz dı 'wumın) : Kadın nerede? K. Hali:: Where's the woman? (weız dı 'wumın)
